Trees in cities, so much ignorance and little respect. The Senigallia Conference

Doctor Daniele Zanzi, a well-known agronomist and world expert on trees, gave a highly appreciated conference in Senigallia on the care of trees in cities. Despite the invitation from the GSA association, the Administration and technicians of the Municipality did not participate, missing an important opportunity to learn from the expert's vast knowledge. Who is Doctor Daniele Zanzi? He has been a member of the Order of Agronomists and Foresters of the province of Varese since 1977 and founded and directs Fito-Consult of Varese, a leading company in urban arboriculture and landscaping. Additionally, he has an extensive academic background, being the author of over 300 scientific and technical publications and an official speaker in congresses, seminars, and conventions in various countries. He has organized and conducted numerous seminars and workshops on the biology and care of trees and is the author of "European Guide to the Proper Planting of Trees." He has received numerous international awards, including the Award of Merit from the Arbor Day Foundation in 1995 and the Grand Award for Excellence in Arboriculture from the National Arborist Association in 2001.

Additionally, he founded the Modern Arboriculture Institute - M.A.I. and ArborMaster Training Italy, an international training program for arborists. He has designed over 200 gardens and green spaces, restored many historical gardens in Italy and abroad, and is a consultant for many entities, municipalities, and scientific institutes. He is currently the CEO of the "La Casa del Sole" Foundation - Barasso with the annexed Center for Environmental Education and Modern Arboriculture Park "Alex Shigo." Finally, since 2012, he has collaborated with the well-known RAI 3 Geo & Geo program as an expert on environmental and botanical issues.

The conference attracted many people interested in the care of trees, and Dr. Zanzi explained many aspects concerning the life and coexistence of trees with citizens in a clear and concrete way. Furthermore, Dr. Zanzi emphasized that trees are essential for life, and the lack of trees in cities can lead to their death. Citizens from nearby cities also participated in the conference, united by the same concern for the torrid climate and the lack of shade that looms in a future without trees. Dr. Zanzi also provided examples of solutions adopted in other cities for the care of trees, such as the less expensive method to eliminate the superficial roots of trees that seek oxygen, which is to remove the asphalt, put a layer of sand and then cover it with asphalt or a sidewalk. The expert also emphasized that one should not cut down a tree just because it has a defect, as all adult trees have one, just like human beings. The event was also highly appreciated by private sector workers in the green industry who appreciated the advice given by the expert. In conclusion, the illuminating words and solutions proposed by Dr. Zanzi should be appreciated and used to improve the care of trees in our cities.
